Drop Spindle Class

This class teaches the basics of drop spinning to create a 2-ply yarn. Using a drop spindle to spin yarn has been around for thousands of years. Your imagination is the only limit on the kinds of yarn you can make. Once you learn the technique, you could make an accent yarn for a knit project or a special hat with your home spun yarn. Relax and sit and spin for a quiet moment of moving meditation. All tools and materials are included in the class fee.

Materials Included: Drop spindle, roving, nostepinne, project bag
Instructor: Lynx Mullen
Instructor Bio: Lynx has been mesmerized by spinning and all things fiber since she was a small child. She was six years old when she saw her first spinning wheel and has been captivated ever since. At the age of eight, she wrote a story about how she would make a living one day spinning yarn. Visiting the state fair, she would watch intently as the ladies wondrously turned fiber into delightfully exquisite yarns. Her first drop spindle was made of glass, which, as you can imagine, didn't have a very long life. Well into adulthood, she finally took the plunge and purchased a 1970's Country Craftsman spinning wheel on Craigslist. After a short amount of time working with some passionate teachers, she found herself at the state fair demonstrating spinning to others and submitting an entry into the yarn competition. Lynx has continued to explore the world of fiber honing her craft and sharing her knowledge with students all over Alaska. Over the last ten years, she has been presented with numerous ribbons at the Alaska State Fair including peg, pin, and sprang weaving, spun yarn, and division championship for dyeing.
